Julia Marie Owens the daughter of the late, loving parents Morris Franklin and Laddie (Winn) Priest.

Julia Marie was born on October 24, 1931 in Moulton, Alabama in Lawrence County.

She became a member of Smith Chapel C.M.E. Church early in life and worked diligently in her church.

Julia attended elementary and high school in Moulton.  She graduated from Moulton High School in 1951.  To further her education, Julia traveled to Montgomery, Alabama where she attended Alabama State University (then known as Alabama State College).  She graduated from Alabama State in 1955.  She then returned home and taught school in the Lawrence County school system for three years.

Julia married Kermit R. McKelvy on November 10, 1957.  He preceded her in death one short month later on December 10, 1957.  This was a horrendous experience for a young bride.

Julia Marie lived for a while in California and later relocated to Cleveland, Ohio to join other members of her family.  There, she became the Head Teacher at a private day care center.  She also taught in the Cleveland, Ohio Public School System, from which she retired.  To keep current and put to good use her love for reading, she attended classes at Baldwin Wallace College, Kent State University and Cleveland State University.

She became the mother of two beloved and lovely daughters who were always the joys of her life:  Laddie Kernett McKelvy-Richardson and Angela Marie McKelvy.  Angela preceded her mother her in death in April of 2012.

In 1993, Julia married Eddie George Kitt who preceded her in death.  In 1998, she became the wife of Fletcher Owens.

She was a member of Cory United Methodist Church where she volunteered on many committees.  Her favorite place to volunteer was the Cory Credit Union, as a member of the Audit Committee.  She was also a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Laddie; her son-in-law, Ranford Richardson; her grandchildren, Julian Anton Robertson, Sarah Marie Richardson and Maxwell James Richardson; Sister, Clara Frances Jackson; brothers, George Louis Priest (Mary), Charlie William Priest (Odra) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

We leave you with her own words: “Memories are things that no one can steal no matter how long.  Remember me with JOY and LOVE always!”
