Mrs. Rucker, widow of Charles “Chuck” Rucker, passed away at her residence.

Julia Elizabeth Rucker was born on May 14, 1932 in Oakland, CA to Leroy James Logan and Helen Julia Meaddows. Julia, also known as “Julie” was a product of San Diego city schools, graduating from San Diego High School. From San Diego High, Julia attended Lenhardt Business College – San Francisco CA. Immediately following her graduation from Lenhardt Business College, Julia launched her successful Federal Government career working for the Department of the Navy – Naval Headquarters San Diego CA. Shortly thereafter, Julia transitioned to the Social Security Administration where she retired as a Contact/Claims Representative. All in all, thirty-four years as a Federal Government employee. During these years, she never stopped her propensity for learning, attending classes at San Diego City College and Grossmont College. Having a strong desire to travel and see the world with her husband, Charles Dee Rucker, Julia soon became a Travel Consultant with Unique Travel Concepts, eventually becoming an independent contractor and owner of her own travel company, Travel Reflections.
As a youth, Julia enjoyed being a Cheerleader at San Diego High School. She spent many Friday nights cheering for the football team with her colleagues. Later in life, she would often try to convince her granddaughter (who was also a cheerleader) to do one of those old “Rah-Rah, Sis-Boom-Bah” cheers that she used to do (but that wasn’t going to happen… ). Eventually, after high school, Julia shifted to modeling. Her tall, sleek, statuesque figure, made her a natural for many modeling opportunities. Although it wasn’t her profession, she worked it like a professional, always poised, always sleek, and always seeming to be posing for the camera with her infectious smile and her right leg in front of her left.
Julia’s many affiliations include the San Diego Museum of Art, African American Museum of Fine Art- Arts Council (Membership Co-Chair 2006-2007), Womens Auxiliary Salvation Army Door of Hope, San Diego Women in Travel, Las Munecas Auxiliary (Past President 1976-1978 and 1985-1987), Chairman – Ebony Fashion Fair 1972 and 1973, Association for the Promotion of Tourism to Africa and the International Federation of Womens Travel Organizations. Julia was also a wonderful homemaker and had what many would call a “Green Thumb” when it came to growing plants. But this alone did not define Julia Rucker…
Julie was married for forty-seven years to her soul-mate (Policeman, Teacher, Artist) Charles “Chuck” Rucker. Following her battle with a growing brain tumor, she departed this life on Sunday, July 27, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dee Rucker; her parents, Helen Julia Taylor and Leroy James Logan; brother, Leroy Logan; her daughter, Kim Leann Rucker and son, Scott Anthony Rucker. Survivors include son, Clark Rucker; daughter-in-law, Ann Rucker; grandchildren, Christopher and Candace Rucker all of Phillips Ranch CA; brother, Cranston Logan and sister-in-law, Gabrielle Logan of Las Vegas, NV, brother, Craig Logan and sister-in-law, Amanda Logan of Sacramento, CA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends throughout the U.S.
