Julia Lee “Judy” Schaeffer, 91, of Springfield, IL and formerly of Virginia, IL died Monday, March 8, 2010 at her residence.
She was born March 20, 1918 in Virginia, IL; the daughter of Jacob and Lenna Way Davis. She married John A. Schaeffer on January 18, 1941 in Lincoln, IL and he survives.
She is also survived by a daughter, Sue Schaeffer (husband, Art Bowden) of Springfield; two granddaughters, Kathryn Baker (husband, Sean) of Aurora and Wende Adams of Chicago; three great grandchildren, Julia, Iain, and Alison Baker, all of Aurora; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Adams; a brother, Glen Davis; and a sister, Helen Hackman.
Mrs. Schaeffer was a 1936 graduate of Virginia High School and a graduate of Gem City Business College in Quincy as well as attending Illinois Wesleyan University. She was employed by the Cass County Clerk’s Office and later worked for Cass County Abstract Company in Virginia. A life-long member of Virginia United Methodist Church, Judy formerly served as choir director and as a Sunday School teacher for 25 years. In her spare time, she loved playing bridge with friends and dancing to the sound of the Big Bands with her husband. Judy also cultivated and nurtured many close friendships over the years.
