Judy Colleen (Dow) Van Sickle, 77, of Laurel, died on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.
Judy, the daughter of Ernest and Ruby (McCumber) Dow, was born on July 7, 1944, in Newton. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1962. On November 24, 1968, Judy was united in marriage with Robert Van Sickle in Newton. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Iowa Methodist in Des Moines and at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She also was a Housekeeper for several years at Newton Inn. In the 80’s they moved to rural Laurel where they would make their home and Judy would become a homemaker. Judy enjoyed going to the casino, reading, and watching Disney movies with her grandchildren.
Judy is survived by her husband, Robert Van Sickle of Laurel; children, Chris (Debbie) Van Sickle of Newton and Lori (Jim) Schutte of Newton; step-son, Tim (Joni) Van Sickle of Newton; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Arless Smith, Stan Dow, Carolyn Peterson, and Clarence Dow.
