Judith Lynn Harris was born February 5, 1949 to Bus and Billie Harris in Boise, Idaho. She passed away on September 3, 2014 at Ivy Place Care Center in Boise from complications of water on the brain.
From 1982-1986 she worked as the County Extension Home Economist in Lincoln County, Colorado for Colorado State University. Her duties included home economics and youth programs.
Wanting to be closer to home and family, she began working for Utah State University in 1987 assigned to Utah County. She moved back to Orem and continued in the positions assigned her for over 20 years until health problems forced an early retirement.
During her career, Judy received many awards including: 1991—Outstanding Professional Home Economist Award, 1992—Region first place for Newsletter II, 1994—First Place National Computer Program (for PowerPay debt reduction program developed with Dean Minor), 1998—State Team Award to HACCP trainers for food safety education, 2000—Outstanding Educational Program – presented for the development of the PowerPay debt reduction software program.
Judy lived in her “dream house” in Orem and spent over 20 years getting it “just right.
Special thanks from the family to the staff and caregivers at Kindred Health Care, Ivy Place, and Legacy Hospice as they helped Judy through her health challenges over the past two years.
Judy is survived by her mother, Roberta (Billie) Harris of Boise; two brothers, Kent (Liz) and Tim of Boise; aunt, Betty Elenbaas of Richfield, Minnesota along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her cats, including Big Boy and Molly, were her children and she loved them dearly. She also loved to eat fine food and travel and she got to do a lot of both in her lifetime. Judy spent a lifetime teaching and helping others and that is a great legacy, but the family will also remember the little blond girl playing around the Hollywood Candy Box, the Pinney Theater, and the Capital building in downtown Boise in the 1950s. We thank our Heavenly Father that our beloved daughter and sister will now be able to walk, talk, and see again.
