Judith Bobby Morganthaler, age76, of Munster, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018. Judy is survived by her children: Mark Misczak, Cindy Franklin and Amy (Dan) Shelton; grandchildren: Kelly Franklin, Nick Franklin, Eric Shelton, Holly Shelton; niece, Janet (Ron) Chaffee; nephew Jon (Mary) Stancik; many godchildren; father of her children and dear friend Fred Misczak; four grand-dogs she loved to spoil. Preceded in death by her husband Patrick Morganthaler, sisters Carol Stancik and Kathyrn (Mike) Kapior, parents John and Julia.

Judy was extremely proud of her Hungarian heritage. Being a proud “Hunky”, she liked to help prepare and eat baco,  bread called “Szalonna” (pronounced: sul uh nuh). She taught not only her kids but also her grandkids the Hungarian version of “Happy Birthday”, which we sing to this day. A fantastic cook, some of Judy’s favorite dishes to make were chicken and dumplings and Csiga soup. Although she enjoyed baking, her true talent was in cooking.  Judy recognized baking as a science and preferred to use her natural creative talents to experiment with foods and spices to create a delicious meal.

She was a unique woman who loved unique things. They HAD to be different; just look at her hair-do! She loved Japanese décor and clothing. Her home had Japanese furniture and she would search for Japanese or Oriental clothing. Gifted with a knack for interior design, Judy was also skilled at making crafts and she made many. She would create little towns, meticulously paying attention to every detail. Wreaths made for members of the family were personalized to their likes as were her tabletop Christmas trees. Never shy, you always knew where you “stood” with her. She wasn’t bashful.

Judith retired from Del Monte where she worked as a Sales Rep for many years. She loved working at this job and was phenomenal at it.  This success was attributed to her natural ability to talk to anyone and everyone. During that time, sales reps had to visit the grocery stores to get orders. Judy possessed a kind heart, loving spirit and could make friends wherever she went. She had an adventurous nature and loved to have fun. Judy loved traveling and visited Montana, Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan, South Dakota and the Caribbean. Cruising was her favorite form of travel and she went on many. Her absolute favorite was Alaskan Cruises. She liked to go gambling on the boats which played into her adventurous nature. The uncanny ability to talk with everyone coupled with truly listening to people and her traveling made Judy the incredibly intelligent person we all love.

Above all else, Judy cherished her dear family and was protective of the ones she loved.  Judy was truly a doting grandmother who adored her grandchildren. Mom left us suddenly and although our family now mourns with immeasurable grief, we will carry her memory in our hearts for the rest of our days.
