Juanita Pereira passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Nov. 9, 2019. Juanita was born Oct. 26, 1934, and was raised in Portland, Ore., along with six other brothers and sisters. Her family owned a small shop called “The Garden of Sweets and Toiletries” where all her siblings worked.
After high school, she attended Central Washington University where she received her teaching degree. While living in Seattle, she met her husband, Gabriel Pereira “Gabby.” Gabby received a job opportunity in Alaska, so Juanita went with him where they were married on June 6, 1961, in Anchorage. Juanita taught school for a few years before starting a family. Juanita and Gabby raised their five children in Anchorage. Juanita was a wonderful mother. She always thought of her children before herself. She was a calm, quiet woman who never raised her voice to her family. When finances were tight, she worked for the U.S. Census Bureau when the children were young, and in later years for Dittman Research. Juanita enjoyed bowling, singing and walking with her dear friend Milly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gabby; and her grandchildren, Tye and Elyse Pereira.
Juanita is greatly missed by her children, Robert (Niki), Richard, Grace, Theresa and Mike (Alesha); and grandchildren, Nathan, Jenna, Josh, Brady and Kennedy. Juanita was blessed with four great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. The family wishes to thank the Marlow Manor for helping take such great care of her the last few years of her life.
