Juan Bautista Ibieta, Jr., born on January 5, 1934, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Friday, April 15, 2016, at the age of 82. Juan was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish until Katrina, when he relocated to Destrehan in St. Charles Parish and resided there until his death, with the wish to return to his beloved St. Bernard. Juan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Fabia Guillot Ibieta, his daughter Tanya Ibieta Ory (Paul), his son Juan Bautista Ibieta, III (Julie), his grandchildren, Ann Marie Ory, Maria Ory, Jenna Ibieta, Justin Ibieta, Jake Ibieta, Danielle Guaraggi Domingue, and his sister, Maria Ibieta Laborde (Maurice). Juan was preceded in death by his father, Juan Bautista Ybieta, his mother, Dorothy Josephine “Bobbie” Dauterive Ybieta, his brother, Frederick Joseph Ibieta (Gail), and his stepdaughter Tina Davis Guaraggi. He is also survived by his aunts, Lucille Dauterive Lorio, and Lily Francione Dauterive, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Juan graduated from Arabi High School in 1951, where the “brilliant back” led the Fighting Owls to many victories. Juan was a plumber by trade, and he was the proprietor of Juan’s Bar, established in 1972, where he served his community with liquid nourishment, friendship, and generosity.
Juan’s family would like express their appreciation to the nurses and staff at St. Catherine’s Hospice and to his caregivers from A First Name Basis for their devoted and compassionate care.
