Joyce Marie “Mama J” Mullens, 79, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, in Rochester.
She was born Mar. 7, 1938, in Versailles, the daughter of Wilmer Harvey and Dollie Surratt Lear. She married Robert Mullens Sr. on May 2, 1976, in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on May 19, 2016.
She is survived by two daughters and four sons, Rebecca (Terry) Marks, Verna (Rusty) Riccaboni-King, Gary (Patricia) King, Stacey (Dana) King, Ron (Sally) Ohl, and Randy (Dawn) Ohl; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Bob “Moon” Mullens Jr. (special friend Donna Drummond Cannon) and Rick Mullens; and her beloved dog, Rocco, and beloved cat, Sterling. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; and one brother.
Mrs. Mullens was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant, and had worked at several area nursing homes as an Activity Director. She volunteered at Passavant Area Hospital, was active at the Jacksonville Area Senior Center, and was an avid reader.
