Joyce M. Newman, 63, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at Passavant Area Hospital.
She was born Aug. 21, 1947, in Morrison, the daughter of Burless and Shirley Hodge Jenkins.
She is survived by two daughters and one son, Peggy (Kenneth) Sturgeon of Rock Falls, Starr Inman of Jacksonville and John Carroll of Quincy; three stepsons, Harold James “Jimmy” Newman, Jr., Joe Inman and James Inman, Jr.; five stepdaughters, Josephine Petty, Carol Ann Inman, Rita Inman, Jewel (Greg) Palmer and Norma Newman; two grandchildren, Anna and James Sturgeon; thirteen step-grandchildren; and one sister, Janet (Ronald) Stanley of Rock Falls. She was preceded in death by her longtime companion, James L. Inman; and two brothers, Don and Glenn Jenkins.
Ms. Newman was a 1967 graduate of Prophetstown Community High School and then received her Certified Nursing Assistant training in Dixon. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in White Hall and attended Jacksonville Assembly of God. She was also a member of CCDI (Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities in Illinois). Joyce enjoyed cooking, sewing, fishing and reading the Bible. She especially loved spending time with her family.
