Joyce Mary Carlson, 88, of Galesburg, died at 4:20 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at home.
Joyce was born January 22, 1929 in Chicago, the daughter of Edwin S. and Ruth S. (Fletcher) Pullen. Joyce graduated from South Shore High School. She worked as an office manager at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics. She later worked at Freeport Memorial Hospital. Joyce had a beautiful voice and shared her talents with many different choirs including; William Ferris Chorale, Holy Nativity Choir, and the Galesburg Community Chorus. She also cared deeply about conservation and was a member of the Nature Conservancy, National Wildlife Federation, and the National Arbor Foundation.
Joyce married Marvin John Carlson in 1948 in Chicago. They had three children all who survive; daughters, Linda (Denis) S. Cunningham of Portland, CT, Susan (Maury) Lyon of Galesburg, and David (Marilyn) E. Carlson of Galesburg. Joyce is also survived by six grandchildren, Gabriel Lyon, Ezra (Stephanie) Lyon, Avram (Aygul) Lyon, Hannah Lyon, Irene Carlson, and Martha Carlson; and four great grandchildren, Nurslam, Akiva, Miriam, and Micah. Joyce also leaves behind her friend and companion of over 30 years, Barb Reuter of Galesburg. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents.
