Joyce Capesius, age 86, of Algona, died on Sunday January 3, 2016 at the Algona Manor Care Center. Joyce Capesius was born July 26, 1929 in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Julius and Mary (Reding) Capesius.
She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1947 and then attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa. She was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Algona and then moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1954 where she lived with her great uncle William Capesius until his death in 1960.
She was employed at GTE, now Verizon Communications, for 36 ½ years, retiring in 1992. Joyce was an active member of Holy Cross Church in St. Petersburg. She was an Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, member of St. Vincent de Paul Society and Sisters in Christ Charismatic Prayer Group. She also volunteered at St. Petersburg General Hospital for many years. Joyce enjoyed international travel, having been in 41 countries, dancing and ushering at the Mahaffey Theater. She enjoyed visiting family and friends in Iowa yearly. Joyce is survived by two brothers, James and Thomas Capesius. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Capesius.
