Joyce Louise Corcoran, 84, died November 13th 2019 at Pleasant View in Ottawa, IL after a lengthy illness. Joyce was born October 25th 1935 in Mulberry Grove IL to Ted L and Louise (Cavin) McKean. She graduated from Mulberry Grove High School in 1953.
After high school Joyce attended Western Union Management training in Indiana and took a position in LaGrange IL eventually moving to Ottawa where she met the love of her life Walter E. Corcoran and later married on September 26th 1959 in St. Patrick’s Church and afterwards settling down and raising a family.Joyce retired from Value City Department store and previously worked at the Ottawa Inn in the housekeeping department and later worked her way up to a Manager position. Joyce was a great cook that made so many specialty dishes from her German potato salad to her rhubarb pie.
She was a mentor that taught life skills with the focus on family. Joyce considered her favorite times the family vacations, holidays, birthdays or any occasion as long as the family was together. Joyce always made sure everyone one was involved and had something whether it was some of her excellent cooking or a simple gift. Joyce was a loving and giving wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished her times with her family and shared her love of life with all of them. She always taught her family that a good successful happy life was based on the faith of our lord and savior, while instilling love, commitment, passion, patience, and care for others.
She was always there and provided comfort while offering direction.She is survived by their four children Mark (Kathy) Corcoran of Rockford IL, Jill Roster of Hollywood FL, Steven Corcoran of Ottawa IL, Keri (Rick) Cook of Ottawa IL. Four grandchildren Alexandria and Allison Corcoran, Rick Jr and Kyle Cook. Three brothers Robert M McKean, Walter L McKean and Carl L McKean and one sister June (Jim) Jones and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Ted and Louise McKean, husband Walter “Corky” Corcoran, son-in-law, Frank Roster, four brothers Ted, Harry, Kenneth, Richard McKean and one sister Trudy Bolyard.Pallbearers will be Steve Corcoran, Rick Cook Sr, Rick Cook Jr, Kyle Cook, Mark Strehl, and Randy McKean.
