Joyce Georgine Teeters, 87, of Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 20, 2008, in Elkhart General Hospital of natural causes.
Joyce was born on Oct. 11, 1921, in Frankfort, Ind., to the late Beryl and Grace (Dickerson) Goldsberry. She married David M. Young on Dec. 21, 1942. They later divorced and he died on March 27, 1996. Joyce then married Harold Teeters on Dec. 26, 1976, and he passed away on Nov. 1, 1992.
Joyce leaves behind a daughter, Sandra Young of Portland, Ore.; two sons, Gregory Young of Cassopolis, Mich., and Jeff Young of Elkhart; two granddaughters, Melanie (David) Thompson of Elkhart and Celeste Young of Los Angeles, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Lindsay (Nate) Harris, Kaila and Shelby Thompson, all of Elkhart, and was looking forward to her first great-great-granddaughter. She also leaves behind her twin sister, Joan Bowen of Greensburg, Ind.
Joyce was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Young, and two brothers, Lee and Theron Goldsberry.
Joyce worked as a clerk for Moore’s Cleaners in Elkhart for 15 years and formerly worked at C.G. Conn as a secretary for five years. She was a 1939 graduate of Frankfort High School and was a former member of the Goshen Moose Lodge 836 and the VFW Post 985 Women’s Auxiliary.
Joyce was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to big-band era music. She also enjoyed writing poetry, and remembered each family member’s birthday with a personal poem.
