Joyce Frances Slycord, 72, of Newton died on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at MercyOne Johnston Hospice.
Joyce, the daughter, of Paul and Maurine (Billman) Slycord, was born on July 23, 1949, in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1967. Joyce started her nurse’s aide career at a local Newton nursing home and then joined her twin sister, Janet, at Skiff Medical Center in 1975. Together they were known for their high level of personal care and compassion given to each of their patients.
Joyce is survived by her brother, Paul (Karen) Slycord of Altoona; nieces and nephews, Kim (Rusty) Lawrence of West Des Moines, Jeff (Kim) Slycord of Des Moines, Deb (Chris) Van Sickle of Newton, and Shelley (Jim) Bailey of Indianola; and her many great nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; special dad, Glenn Jacobs; twin sister, Janet Slycord; sister, Charlene Catlett; and brother, Phillip Slycord.
