Joyce F. Olson, 70, of Fort Dodge passed away Tuesday April 6, 2010 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jordan and Frances(Carr) Thompson and brothers Richard and Douglas Thompson. Survivors include her husband Jerry Olson; sons Mark (Rosie) Olson of Shelbyville, Tenn., Brett (Terri) Olson of Fort Dodge and Todd (Jen) Olson of Grand Rapids, Mich; Sister, Janet Sides of Sonoma, California, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Joyce Olson was born May 4, 1939 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended and graduated high school in 1957 from Callender, Iowa. She worked as a secretary for Dahlquist Brokerage Company and then the Olson Distributing Company, Inc. of Fort Dodge. In 1983 she founded the Kinda-Nice Gift & Antique store in Badger, Iowa (which she ran until she was stricken with Peritoneal Cancer in May of 2002). At the onset, she was given 6 months to live , but with 125 chemotherapy treatments and may great doctors and nurses, she beat all of the odds. She also was an accomplished artist, teaching her craft to many. Joyce and Jerry were united in marriage on June 29, 1966. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She inspired many, both those who knew her as well as those who did not know her. May she rest in peace.
