Terre Haute- Joyce Elaine “Nana” Ellinger , 66, passed away in her home, surrounded by loved ones , August 1, 2020 after an 11 month battle with leukemia. Joyce was born October 10, 1953 in Terre Haute, IN to Charles (Dick) and Delores Day.

Joyce attended Garfield High School and studied at Ivy Tech Community College.  Joyce devoted her life to taking care of others. The oldest of 10 children, Joyce helped take care of her siblings growing up, lived for her children and husband and spent many years and countless hours taking care of developmentally disabled children and adults. She put the wants and needs of others before her own, often sacrificing herself to help someone in need.

Joyce enjoyed retirement in recent years.

Joyce had a calming affect on everyone and was a shoulder to cry on for many. Her positive attitude and unbreakable strength were qualities that were admired by all who knew her. She refused to let leukemia “beat her” and fought with everything she had to live another day. Joyce was a warrior in the face of adversity and a bright light in the lives of those blessed with the gift of calling Joyce their friend.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Charles (Dick) and Delores Day, husband Daniel Ellinger, Sr and brother Ronnie Day.

She is survived by son, Daniel Ellinger, Jr, daughter, Mendi Ellinger,  grandsons, Logan Ellinger, Daniel Ellinger, III, and David Utterback, Jr,  Granddaughter, Gabby Tarwater, Great Granddaughter,  Addison Urbain,  Sisters Tammy Day, Teresa Cox, Peggy Cox-Glover (Mike), Brothers Randy (Loretta) Day, Chuck (Patty) Day, Wayne (Mary Ann) Day, David (Tina) Day, Scott (Amy) Day, Daughter In Law, Jennifer Duncan,  Companion Henry (Sr), special cousins Angel, Pam, Henry (Jr) and several nieces, nephews,  and cousins.
