Joyce Eileen Drumm, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Monday morning, July 24, 2008, at Valley View Health Care Center after a brief illness. She was 84.

Joyce was born on July 19, 1924, in Rolling Prairie, Ind., to the late Lester Maurice and Mildred Merie (Sauers) Meadows. She married Glenn Drumm Jr. on Dec. 13, 1952, at Trinity Methodist Church in Elkhart.

Surviving is her husband of 55 years, Glenn Drumm Jr. of Elkhart; two daughters, Vyvyan (Tom) Dunlap of Middlebury, Ind., and Rebecca (Mike) Friesner, Centreville, Mich. Her three grandchildren also survive her, Aaron and Devin Dunlap of Tucson, Ariz., and Jessica (Jason) Friesner-Seiler of Elkhart. Several nieces and nephews survive as well.

Joyce was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Samantha Friesner, and five sisters, Frances Canell, Helen Albright, Beverly Bartley, Marilyn Swan and Patricia Simons.

Joyce graduated from Elkhart High School with the class of 1942. After high school she worked briefly at C.G. Conn where she first met and eventually married Glenn. For many years Joyce ran a day care from her home and to this day many of those children remain close to her family.

She loved to cook for her family and friends, crochet and cross-stitch, play bingo, cards and do calligraphy. She was quite gifted as a calligrapher. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 73 and a volunteer of Harvest Basket Services.

In 1985 she began to work part-time at Penguin Point as a cashier and worked at the Goshen Avenue store until she was hospitalized. Her love for people gained her the honor of “Employee of the Year” at least five times over her 23 years of employment.
