Joyce Corrow Bentley, of Cromwell passed away on May 16, 2016. She was born on Dec 31, 1931 in Newport, Vermont to Ira and Doris (Batcheldor) Corrow. She graduated from Canton High School 1949. She was editor in chief of the school paper, involved in school plays, cheerleading, various high school committees, and wrote the song used for her class graduation. She was in close touch throughout her life with many of her high school friends, attending regular luncheons and reunions. She continued on to Bryant College in Rhode Island where she earned her Executive Secretarial Degree in 1951. She served as secretary for her sorority Sigma Iota Beta. After raising four children, Joyce worked as executive assistant to bank presidents, attorneys and managed dentist offices. In 1986 she opened “Grandmas House” in Cromwell Square, a quality children’s resale clothing and merchandise store. Joyce also handmade countless baby blankets, sweaters and specialty items. She ran her store very successfully for 15 years before retiring. From then on she was affectionately known as “Grandma”. Joyce was an active member of Cromwell Hills Condominium Board for 11 years, serving as secretary for many of those years. She was known as “the critical thinker” and was the first to challenge decisions. As a young child, music became important to Joyce. She learned tap dancing, and grew up playing the piano, organ and accordion. During her high school years, she was crowned “Miss Secret Lake”. She was a bright and energetic beauty.
