Mrs. Joyce Carpenter age 90, of Louisville, AL passed away Sunday, February 5,2017 at her home.

 

Special music will be provided by Beverly Walker Danford, Meredith and Jason Waddell.

Left to cherish her memory daughter, Barbara (Joe Baxter) Carpenter of Clio; sons, Joe (Sherry Lane) Carpenter of Clio, Al; Jack Carpenter of Texas; grandchildren Scott Carpenter, Amy (Stephen) Finley, Shane Carpenter, Carl (Janet) Carpenter, Cartha (Nameer) Siddiqui, Anissa Ivey, Stacy (Adam) Carpenter, Clay (Michelle) Dansby;  She was blessed with numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dekalb Carpenter; parents Will and Lena Helms; great grandson Connor Finley; great granddaughter Jordan Brabham; sisters Edith Helms; Annie Ree Alford; brother Felix Helms.

At the age of 15, Joyce Helms married her teenage sweetheart, Dekalb Carpenter. They shared 63 years together; she worked beside him during those years together operating Carpenter Tractor Company, row cropping and cattle farming on a large scale. Mrs.Carpenter mastered all aspects of farming and was revered by all who knew her as a hardworking lady. Her farm passion settled with the cows. She loved feeding and caring for them every day. She called them “her girls”. She was featured in a state magazine for her excellence in the cattle industry. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Another passion was cooking and having family and friends sit down to a meal of home raised vegetables and meat. She was a member of the Pine Level Baptist Church and she loved her Lord. She had a longtime friend, Charlie Green, who in the recent years accompanied her with the farming duties as her health declined.
