Loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Joyce Pannell passed from this world on May 16, 2012 at the age of 65 after succumbing to the long-term effects of diabetes and heart disease. Joyce lived her entire life in pain due to a congenital arthritic hip. Her disability did not keep her from her artistic and creative endeavors. She was always either making or dreaming up something beautiful. Over the course of her life she created art pieces using multitude of media including pottery glacis, polymer clay, precious metal clay, fabric and dichroic glass.
What her family and friends will remember most about Joyce is her generosity. No matter how little she had, she was willing to share. But more to the point, her daily life was focused on making or finding a gift that would bring happiness to someone else. She imparted this passion to her grandchildren who were regularly treated to her creative chaos and selfless heart.
Joyce was a bright woman who read voraciously and spoke fluent Spanish. Many people were surprised to learn that she learned Spanish by listening to music and surrounding herself with native speakers. Joyce will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by daughters Shari Villagrana-Navarro and Lisa Villagrana; son-in-law Gabriel Navarro, grandchildren Gabriella and Angelina Navarro and Brandon Villagrana, sisters Jeanne Sheridan and Pat Pannell, brother James Pannell and step-sisters Carol Bastoky, Ann Burk and Sue Anderson.
