…. Dean Register. A native of Pearl River County, MS, she was a receptionist at USM for about 35 years, and was a Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house mother at USM. Joy was a member of Crosspoint Community Church. She was a real people person, and loved cooking and sending cards for all occasions. Joy was always taking care of people, whatever they needed her to do. She had a very positive upbeat attitude. Joy loved her family and was always present for anything that her family was involved in. Joy really lived up to her name, spreading joy everywhere she went. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Mitchell and Addie Wheat Mitchell; her 2 sons, Perry Wallace Samrow and Steven Patrick Samrow, and her sister, Marie Mitchell Sones. Survivors include her daughter, Jeanne Whitfield and husband Derwin; 3 grandchildren, Eric, Drew, and Steven, 5 great grandchildren, Ethan, Graham, Noah, Jackson, and Evie, and nieces, Jane Sones Kleinschmidt and Judy Sones Beall.
