Joy Johnson
Joy Claire Jarman Johnson passed away May 7, 2011, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center following a stroke. At her passing she was surrounded by her family.
Joy was born in March 18, 1937, the eldest child of Joseph Lester and Claire May Heimsley Jarman. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended Garfield Elementary, East High School and graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Secondary Education and a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Dance from the University of Utah.
She met her husband Reynold Johnson, while they were both teaching at Irving Jr. High School. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, February 1, 1968.
She started taking dance lessons at the age of three and at the age of five won the Utah State Fair Junior talent competition.
She danced with the Utah Civic Ballet (Later Ballet West) while in high school and throughout her college years. Reynold and Joy moved back to Star Valley where Joy started a dance school and later teamed up with Betty Astle in forming “The Dance Shoppe” a school for tap and ballet. She continued teaching dance until she ended her career with a final production of “The Nutcracker” Ballet in 2001.
