Joy Ann (Bargenquast) Davis, 64, of Perry Lutheran Homes died peacefully in her sleep of Alzheimer’s Disease on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.

Joy was born in Des Moines, IA. She lived with her family in Indianola until they moved to Boone, IA where she attended school and graduated from High School. She married James (Jim) Davis in August of 1978 and moved to Des Moines where they lived and raised their family. She stayed home to care for their children until they were all in grade school, then completed her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from DMACC in 1992. She began working as a pediatric nurse at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines then served at Blank Children’s Hospital in her dream job as a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for 15 years until she retired early due to her Alzheimer’s Disease. She was lovingly cared for by her husband and family until she moved to Perry Lutheran in 2020 due to her disease progression.

Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Bargenquast. Survived by her siblings, her husband Jim, her children, Aaron (Stephanie), Matthew (Mindy), Katie, and Mark (Tori), grandchildren (Zoey, Grace, and Abigail), as well as many extended family members.

Joy had the most beautiful smile and the kindest heart, she was a truly genuine person who knew how to love and care for others well. She lived out her faith in Christ by the way she treated people daily and loved so unconditionally. She always had a love music, growing up playing piano and singing with her mother and sister. She loved the beauty of God’s creation, often spending time gardening, bird watching, or appreciating nature. But most of all, she cherished her family and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible. Whether celebrating special occasions together, taking vacations with kids, grandkids and extended family (often to Door County, WI), or simply finding time to be together for no special reason at all, she spent her life serving others and creating countless memories that will be treasured forever. She will be forever missed by all who love her dearly, but we celebrate her life together and rejoice that she is now healed and made whole, looking forward to the day we will meet again!
