Josiah, a resident of Charlotte, NC, formerly of VA, passed unexpectedly on November 8th.  He was preceded in death by his father, Joel Dean Clifton; his paternal grandparents, Hyman and Irene Clifton; and his maternal grandfather, George Madison.

He is survived by his mother, Hilda Graff and sister Joelle Fior and her husband Matt; all of Charlotte, NC., as well as his step-mother Merry Ann Clifton of Clifton Forge, and step-siblings Lorri Boyd and Jay Kiser.  Josiah is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Thelma Jean Madison of Millboro. On his father’s side, he is survived by his aunt, Tina Waybright and his uncle, Timothy Clifton and three first cousins:  Shane Clifton, Duane Clifton, and Eric Buzzard.  On his mother’s side, Josiah is survived by his aunt, Glenda Campbell, and two first cousins: Jeffrey Campbell and Amanda Snead.  There are three great-aunts who were an intricate part of his childhood:  Thelma, Barbara, and Shirley Madison. Especially dear to Josiah’s heart are his girlfriend, Makinnlee Nantais, and her 7-year-old son, Easton, of Blacksburg, SC.  They, along with parents, Clay and Paula Smith,  also of Blacksburg and grandparents, Jim and Jean Nantais of Corunna Ontario, are truly Josiah’s second family.

Josiah was a graduate of Butler High School in Matthew, NC and attended UNC Pembroke.  Later he graduated from CDA (Commercial Diving Academy) with his certification as a deep sea diver.  He was employed by Seaward Marine Corporation in Chesapeake, Va.   Most recently, Josiah was employed by Blythe Construction as a heavy equipment operator.  He will be missed by his co-workers at Blythe, as they were truly dear friends.
