Josephine Amaro Grasso, age 87, peacefully passed away October 19, 2022, surrounded by her loving
family and caregivers at the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Bridgeport. Josephine was born in
Bridgeport, CT, and was the daughter of the late John and Angelina (Bono) Amaro. She was the beloved
wife of the late Victor Grasso. She lived in Fairfield most of her life before moving to Trumbull.
After graduating Roger Ludlow High School, she worked in the file department at the Bassick Company
in Bridgeport until the birth of her first child. As a stay-at-home mother, she dedicated herself to her
husband and raising her family. Once her family was grown, she enjoyed working as a sales clerk at
Countdown and The Sweater Shop in Fairfield. Josephine’s family always came first. She was a great
cook and liked keeping her home organized. In her spare time, she liked to knit, crochet and paint
ceramics. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She spent many hours laughing and playing games
with them. She will be remembered as selfless.
Survivors include her son Anthony Grasso of Stratford, daughters Debora Pappolla and husband Jacob of
Fairfield, Angela Kaczegowicz and husband Alan of Trumbull, grandchildren Francine and Victor
Pappolla, Nicholas and Brian Grasso and Valerie and Alan Kaczegowicz, and great-grandchildren Cecelia
and Anthony Grasso. She is also survived by her brother Robert and sister-in-law Lynne Amaro of
Beacon Falls, sister-in-law Betty Amaro of Wrenthem, MA, and several nieces and nephews. She was
pre-deceased by her brothers Jacob Amaro of Monroe, NC, and Joseph Amaro of Seymour, CT.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the extremely dedicated nurses, CNA’s and staff
at the Jewish Home for their great care and compassion over the last 7 years.
