Josephine Louise Scupham Strubbe Buchanan, 86, of Jacksonville, IL died Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Jacksonville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jacksonville.

She was born September 12, 1925 in Winchester; the daughter of Charles William and Flora Louise Hoots Scupham. She married Leonard C. “Buck” Buchanan on April 4, 1961 in Jacksonville, IL and he preceded her in death on July 25, 1992.

She is survived by a son, Arthur Strubbe (wife, Marcia) of the Auburn area; a daughter, Tami Alexander (husband, Ricky) of Jacksonville; a step daughter, Jeaneanne Brandle of Southfield, MI; a granddaughter, Jenna Alexander of Jacksonville; two step granddaughters, Sarah Alexander of Springfield and Ashley Brant (husband, Mike) of Jacksonville; three step great grandchildren, Trey, Kya, and Ty Brant of Jacksonville; a brother, Donald Lee Scupham of Roodhouse; a sister, Pauline Harshaw (husband, George) of Jacksonville; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Charles Buchanan; a step son, Jerry Buchanan; and a brother, Charles William Scupham.

Mrs. Buchanan was employed at NESCO during World War II and later at Kordite. She also worked as a waitress for Wagner’s Cafe prior to joining Passavant Hospital, where she served as a nurse’s aide for 20 years. She was of the Christian faith.
