Josephine (Horzen) Foley, 95, of LaSalle, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. Mrs. Foley was born May 2, 1916 in DePue, IL to Anton and Josephine (Kukman) Horzen and moved to LaSalle with her parents in 1924. She attended St. Rochs Grade School and LaSalle-Peru Township High School.

She married John Foley on June 18, 1938 in St. Rochs Church in LaSalle and until their retirement in 1975 they operated Foleys Grocery Store on East First Street in LaSalle. Mr. Foley served as Mayor of LaSalle from 1973 through 1977. Mr. Foley passed away on March 17, 1984. Mrs. Foley was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in LaSalle, where she was a member of St. Anns Sodality, the Ladies of Charity and the Catholic Daughters of America. Proud of her heritage, she was a member of the American Slovenian Catholic Union (KSKJ) and the Slovenian Women’s Union.

She also worked with the Cub Scouts and Boys Scouts and the St. Bede Academy Mothers Club. Survivors include two sons, James (Carolyn) Foley of Houston, TX and John Jack Foley of Chicago; a son-in-law, Ken Goldin of Peoria; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one brother, Rev. Bernard Horzen, OSB of St. Bede Abbey in Peru. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Patricia Goldin and a brother, Frank Horzen.
