Josephine Whipple Balukoff, our dearly loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on October 8, 2008 in Boise, Idaho, and reunited with her soul mate and husband of 63 years, Tony.  She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Travis Stanton.

Jo, as she was known by family and friends, was born November 6, 1922 in Mesa, Arizona, the granddaughter of Arizonapioneers.  Her parents, brother and sister preceded her in death.  Jo is survived by her three children, AJ, of Boise, Louie, of Olympia, Washington, and Eloise Stanton, of San Diego, California; and their spouses, Susie, Jeanene and Bob Stanton.  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.

Jo was a child of the depression, surviving childhood polio and going to work in her father’s shake mill when she was 10-years-old.  During World War II Jo worked as a telephone operator in Mesa, Arizona and later as a bank teller.  It was during that time she met her love, Anthony B. ‘Tony’ Balukoff, a Navy buddy of her brother, N.E.D. and her brother-in-law, Cliff Frost.  They were married March 8, 1945.

They raised their family in San Diego, California.
