Joseph W. Harvey Jr., age 69, of West Haven passed away February 15, 2011 in St. Raphael’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary Vincent Harvey. He was born in West Haven, May 17, 1941, son of the late Joseph W. (Chief West Haven Police Department) and Rachela Acampora Harvey and his late stepmother Kathryn Harvey. A lifelong resident of West Haven, he was retired Superintendent of the Allingtown Fire Department and a life member of A.V.F.A. Father of Kim (Thomas) Doran, Joseph W. Harvey III and Danielle (Lynwood) Hackett. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Melissa and Anna Doran, Bryanna Harvey and Michael Hackett, a sister Rosemarie (Richard) Williamson, a brother Daniel Harvey and stepsister Marie Carrano. Joseph was also a City Councilman for the 6th District for 9 years and was honored as Irishman of the Year for West Haven in 2002. He loved being a fireman and also a councilman. His goal as a councilman was to keep as many senior citizens who couldn’t afford their taxes to stay in their homes until their deaths. He was a member of the Retired Professional Firefighters Association, the West Haven Elks and the Washington Pietro Mica Club. Joe was an avid Red Sox and UCONN Basketball fan. His family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Raphael’s Verdi 3 North and Sr. Anne Virginie Grimes Health Center.
