Joseph V. Taggart passed away on June 22, 2013 at the age of 95. He was the beloved husband of Irene D. Taggart. Born in Hicksville, N.Y. on December 17, 1917 he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Graham Taggart. He lived in Newington over 60 years. Joe worked as a food service supervisor at Newington Veterans’ Hospital before being employed as maintenance supervisor at Ruth Chaffee School.A fine cook, Joe prepared his own meals until last year. He enjoyed eating out, music (WJMJ) a good joke and good company. He had a “green thumb” and took great pride in his yard. He was a proud Irishman and devout Catholic. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus (4th degree) and the America Legion. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during leaves his son Thomas (Joan) and two grandchildren, Carolyn Taggart and John Taggart, a niece, Patricia Quinlan (Alfred) of South Carolina. He was predeceased by his wife Irene, brother John and a nephew Edward family wishes to thank Salmon Brook Nursing Home for its care of Joe during the last several months. Also, a special thank you to Jerry Griffin and Patrick and Helene O’Neill for their friendship and devotion, which can never be adequately acknowledged. Joe will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
