Joseph Swoope Jr., was born August 9, 1940 in Lawrence County, Alabama to the late Joseph Swoope, Sr. and Pauline Whitfield. He departed this life on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at his residence.
He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Alabama. He completed his high school education at Tennessee Valley High School and retired as a construction worker in 2005.
Joseph was preceded in death by his father Joseph Swoope Sr., and three brothers, Henry, Willie Mack and Charles Swoope.
His loving memory will be cherished by one daughter, Pat Swoope-Jackson (Greg) of Madison, AL; one son Mandel Swoope and one step-son, the Rev. Bernard Birgans both of Decatur; four grandchildren, Chandler and Kennedy Jackson, Courtney Smith and Ebony Birgans; his mother, Pauline Whitfield Swoope; four sisters, Edna Swoope, Julie Spencer (Curtis), Ruth Yarbrough (Carl) all of Cleveland, OH and Viviane Boyd of Hillsboro, AL; three aunts, Cornelia Owens, Rebelle Elliot and Maggie Moore of Decatur, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
