Joseph Stephen Della Monica, Sr, age 76 of Milford, passed away on Tuesday September 20, 2016 at Arden House in Hamden. He was born to the late Anthony and Anna Aversa Della Monica in Yonkers, NY ON November 25, 1939. After graduating high school, Joseph served his country proudly as a soldier in the US Army as a military police man. After Joseph’s time in the military he went to work for Sears, Roebuck and Co. for 35 years. After his retirement from Sears and Roebuck, Joseph worked at Home Depot in Orange, Ct, where he worked for 22 years. Joseph was affectionately known as Joe D. by all those who knew him and was proclaimed the unofficial mayor of Home Depot. An active member of the community, Joseph served as an Alderman, Inlands/Wetlands Commission, treasurer of The Concerned Citizens of Milford, Bodie’s Place building committee, The Milford Boys and Girls Village, The Milford Republican Town Committee, multiple playground placements with Home Depot and a member of the VFW Post 7788. Mr. Della Monica leaves behind his devoted wife, Helen Yavorsky Della Monica and their loving children Joseph Della Monica, Jr. and his wife Linda and Ann Margaret Della Monica and her husband Jason, all of Milford. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brianna, Gabriella, Joseph and Samantha. Besides his parents, Joseph is predeceased by his brothers Rocco, Rudy and Anthony. Joseph will be remembered by those who knew him as a man with a big heart who would treat everyone he met as though were family and could carry on lengthy conversations with everyone from democrats to doctors and ending in smiles and laughs.
