Joseph R. Norton, Sr.

New London- Joseph R. Norton, Sr., 86, of Huntington St., husband of the late Jacqueline E. (Jarvis) Norton, died Wednesday, morning August 31, 2016 at Bride Brook Health & Rehabilitation Center in Niantic. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late Charles and Cora (Patterson) Norton.
On March 27, 1943, in New London he was united in marriage to the former Jacqueline E. Jarvis.
Mr. Norton was a proud Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War serving with both the United States Navy and Air Force. Joseph worked for many years at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals as a chemical operator.
Joseph was a proud member of the VFW Post 189 and the American Legion John Coleman Prince Post 9 both in New London. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed riding his scooter around town. But, above all he cherished the quality time that he was able to spend with his family.
Surviving are four sons Al Dart, Sr. and his wife Wendy of Norwich, Robert Norton of New London, Wayne Norton, Sr., of Hartford, and William Norton of New London; five daughters Mary Pepas of New London, Debra Robinson and her husband Scott of Uncasville, Donna Salls and her husband Wayne of New London, Robin Smith of New London, and Dawn Stone of Quaker Hill; two brother Charles Norton of FL and Gene Norton of Groton; a sister Helen Huntly of MI; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, one great great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Joseph Norton, Jr.; a daughter Gwen Wardwell; two brothers Carl and Eugene Norton; and a sister June Patterson.
