Joseph R. Tosies
“Mr T.” 71, of Kearny passed away on Sunday January 10, 2010 in the Hackensack University Medical Center.
Joseph was born and raised in Newark and has lived in Kearny for the last 43 years. He attended Newark East Side High School. While there he was the first player to pitch and catch a no hitter in the same year. In 1956 he was named 1st Team All Essex County for both pitcher and catcher. He then attended Seton Hall University on a four year baseball scholarship.
After completing his junior year he left Seton Hall to serve his country in the U.S. Army. During the same time he was drafted by the Milwaukee Braves. After being discharged from the Army he decided not to report to the Milwaukee Braves but instead to return to Seton Hall to finish his senior year. He graduated in 1962 with a B.S. in Physical Education.
He was employed for the North Arlington Board of Education as an elementary school physical education teacher for 32 years. He retired in 1995. While at North Arlington he coached all sports at the Varsity and Junior Varsity level. He was a true North Arlington Viking.
He was predeceased by his son Robert P. in 1966. “Mr. T” is survived by his wife Anita (Santucci) and three sons Joseph L., Richard P., and Christopher R. and his partner Joseph. He was the brother of Lorraine Andrade and Betty Allen. He was the grandfather of Robert, Richard, Angelo and Julian.
