Joseph R. Konkol, age 86, of Fairfield, beloved husband of nearly 57 years of Viola (Francisco) Konkol, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Dickson City, PA the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Konkol, he had been a Fairfield resident since 1965. Mr. Konkol proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he received a Bronze Star for Valor. He retired from Handy & Harman in 1993 where he worked as a melt make-up man. Joseph also worked part-time for many years as a custodian at the Fairfield Town Hall. He was an active member of the Raymond J. Bower Post 1466 Catholic War Veterans. He was a fan of all New England sports, but a life long fan of the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed gardening, ball games, puzzles, polka music and an occasional trip to the casino.
