Joseph Paul Christmann Sr., 91, of Oglesby, passed away Monday, March 29, 2021, at his home. Mr. Christmann was born June 25, 1929, in Spring Valley to John and Evelyn (Virgo) Christmann. He attended LaSalle-Peru High School. He married Frances Mary Defoer on December 28, 1950, in Norfolk, VA.

Mr. Christmann was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War from 1948-1952. He was a member of the Oglesby American Legion. He was employed at LeHigh Cement in Oglesby for 17 years and most recently worked in maintenance for Oglesby Public Schools for 11 years. He enjoyed fishing and was a self-employed commercial fisherman for many years, earning the nickname, “Minnow Joe”. He also enjoyed hunting. His greatest joy was his family life and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; three children, Joseph (Shari) Christmann Jr. of Dalzell and Denise (James) Kaszynski and Richard (Wendy) Christmann both of Oglesby; eight grandchildren, Sarah Bernardi, Kristen Witalka, Jessica Chase, Zachary Christmann, Rachel Kaszynski, Lisa Kaszynski, Austin Christmann and Michael Kaszynski; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Wilson of LaSalle; his brother, John Christmann of DePue; several nieces and nephews and his caregiver, Jamie Thomas of Oglesby. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Evelyn Stevens.
