Joseph M. Santos, Sr.

Norwich – Joseph M. Santos, Sr., 90 of Hamilton Ave., died Tuesday evening May 24, 2016, at Wm. W. Backus Hospital. Born in Norwich he was the son of the late Manuel and Adelina (Penha) Santos.
Mr. Santos worked for many years as a stone mason for Belmiro Rodrigues Construction, and worked right up until the day he died. Joseph was a proud veteran of World War II and was a member of the Santiago Society, American Legion Post 4 where he was a member of the color guard, the Santos Band, VFW, but above all he was extremely proud of his Cape Verdean heritage.
Surviving is a son Randy Santos of Norwich; three daughters Laurie Santos of Providence, RI, Tonya Gosselin of Norwich, and Candida Santos of Jewett City; a brother Anthony Santos of Norwich; two sisters Priscilla Mallette of Athol, MA and Libana Rose of Sterling; twelve grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Joseph Santos, Jr.; six brothers Edwin, Julio, Marcelino, Abel, Matthew, and Domingo and a sister Elizabeth Santos.
