Joseph M. Williams, 93

North Greenbush – Joseph M. Williams, 93, died April 18, 2010. He was the son of the late Joseph M. Williams and Margaret Beyette Williams. Loving husband for 65 years of the late Mary Paul Brunelle Williams, Father of Dennis (Kathleen) Williams of Amsterdam NY, Diane (John) Girard of Fairview Texas, Louise (Edward) Ruth of Sanford NC, Carole (Robert J.) Canfield of Troy, NY and Michele Pietroniro of Denver Colorado. Grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Brother of the late John Williams of Montreal Canada.

Joseph was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta and received his higher education in Montreal.

Joseph resided in Troy, NY from 1945 to 1974; Crystal River, Florida from 1974 to 1980 and 1980 to present in Niskayuna and Schenectady.

He was employed as a manager at the Ford Motor Company in Green Island from 1950 until his retirement in 1973.

From the mid seventies to the early eighties he traveled with his wife, Mary, extensively throughout the United States and Canada.

In early 1980 and continuing until 2003, Joe started what he considered his ‘real career’ in taking up the causes for Senior Citizens. Joe was President of the Board of Directors of the Annie Schaffer Senior Center in Schenectady and a prime mover in the building of the Schaffer Heights Development Complex. A member of the Advisory Council for the Office for Aging, Schenectady County; President of the Schenectady County Community Services Committee; Advisory Board member for the Schenectady County Human Services Planning Council ; President and District Manager for the Kiwanis “Golden K”; Vice President of the Schenectady County Council of Senior Citizens; Co-Chair for the Schenectady County Health Care Issues Committee ; President and Assistant State Director for AARP; United Way of Schenectady County.

Joseph received numerous certificates of awards and formal recognitions for his advocacy work for seniors from the U.S. Congress, State Legislature, Schenectady County and City and other Agencies.
