Joseph M. Wall, Sr., 87, of Sanibel Island, FL and longtime resident of Milford, CT passed away suddenly but peacefully on Tuesday, March 17th. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean Marie Wall (Whalen) to whom he was married for forty four years. Born on February 25th, 1928 in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late John Sr. and Marguerite (McGarry) Wall.
Mr. Wall was an enthusiastic teacher for the Fairfield Board of Education for 35 years (Grasmere School, Sherman School, Oldfield School and Tomlinson Junior High) and was an Educational Lecturer at Fairfield University before retiring in 1985. Mr. Wall loved to learn and his degrees included a BS in physical education from Manhattan College, a BS in elementary education from New Haven State Teachers College, and an MS in Education from Fairfield University.
Joe served as a volunteer fireman for 15 years in Milford, CT and was captain until 1985. He also served as a lifeguard for many years at the Fairfield beaches and later became the waterfront director. Joe also had a passion for photography and loved to practice his skills at National Parks, F1 races and weddings. In his retirement on Sanibel Island with his wife Jean, Mr. Wall enjoyed the beautiful beaches, sunsets and sanctuaries that the island offers.
Mr. Wall also served in the Army in the Korean War and the Army Reserves.
Mr. Wall was predeceased by his brother John Jr. and sister Margie. He is survived by his children and their spouses Mary and Arthur Corker of Easley, SC, Joseph Wall Jr. and Debra Andrews of Milford, CT, Ellen Wall of Milford, CT, David and Marianne Wall of Northford, CT, Noreen Wall of Chaplin, CT, Patrick Wall of Waterloo, SC and Robert and Pamela Wall of Medfield, MA. He was the beloved grandfather to Raymond, Chris (fiancé Kim Kliger) and Thomas Choma and Grace and Jerry Caplan all of CT and Julia Wall of Medfield, MA. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and friends.
