Joseph M. Sellers was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 10, 1928 to the late Spottwood Lee Sellers and Anna Curtis. He was the youngest of five children. He attended the public and high school systems in Brooklyn. He served in the Army Reserve from 1951 to 1953. Afterwards he transferred to the Army in 1953 and was Honorably Discharged in 1957. He was employed by the Port Authority System as a Tunnel Police Officer and he also worked as a Security Guard in Rockefeller Center.

He met and married his wife Florence Arrington in 1958, they were together for 49 years until her passing in 2007.

Joseph was preceded n death by his two sisters: Martha Arrington and Blanche Sellers and two brothers: Phillip Sellers Sr., and John Sellers Sr., two sisters-in-law: Rita Sellers and Mildred Sellers, one nephew John Sellers Jr., one nephew-in-law John N. Deas III, four nieces Juanita Ammons, Irene Arrington, Gertude Conrad and Renee Grant, one niece-in-law Patricia Sellers and one great nephew-in-law Fred London.

He leaves to cherish fond memories his nieces, nephews, great nieces, nieces-in-law, great nephews, great nephews-in-law and other relatives and friends.
