Joseph Lazaro Lynde

Our beloved Joe passed away on October 5, 2014, at his home in Nampa, Idaho, following a two year battle with cancer. Joe was born in Arock, Oregon on August 13, 1937, the second of three children, to Russell and Ruby Urquiaga Lynde. Joe had fond memories of growing up on his family’s ranch in Arock where they farmed, raised sheep and later, cattle. He loved to fish and hunt and was well known around the Jordan Valley area as an excellent rifle shot.

After graduating from Jordan Valley High School, Joe attended Boise Junior College in between working on the ranch. He enjoyed playing the guitar and often played for many local country dances. It was at one of these grange hall affairs that he was introduced to a pretty, little blonde-headed Irish girl by the name of Retha Dewey. After two years of courtship, the couple were married on July 11, 1959.

In 1960, Joe was drafted into the United States Army where he served two years in the Army Corp of Engineers, eleven months of which were stationed in Germany. Joe rose to the rank of sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1962. While Joe was in Germany, Retha gave birth to their oldest son, Ken, and in 1964, their second son, Terry, was born.

Throughout the years on the ranch, Joe, his older brother, Eddie, and their father dabbled in the construction business, and in the early 1960’s, they sold the ranch and went exclusively into construction. Joe moved from Jordan Valley to Caldwell where he and Retha raised their family. In the mid 1990’s, Joe became interested in abstracting metals from ore, and along with his partners, formed a company specializing in precious metal recovery. Joe worked passionately on his business until recently, when his illness no longer allowed him to do so.

One cannot speak of Joe without acknowledging his deep faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Mary Cline (Jessie). He is survived by his wife, Retha, his two sons, Ken (Ann) of Wilder and Terry (Shauna) of Nampa, and his brother, Eddie (Ruth), of Jordan Valley. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandon (Melissa) Hathhorn, Jason Hathhorn, Cody Lynde, and Katherine, Allyson, and Gabe Hartrampf; two great grandsons, Benjamin and Joseph Hathhorn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
