The pages of this book began for Joseph Klaba Dennis, Jr. when he was born on February 15, 1948, in Cape Palmas, Liberia to his parents, Joseph K. Dennis, Sr. and Wedeh Cooper Dennis. He was the fifth child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, James, John and his sisters, Mary and Martha. When Joe was just a toddler, he suffered the loss of both his parents. He was raised by his aunt in Cape Palmas, Liberia who taught him to cook which included his favorite dish, palm butter. He received his early education in Liberia, where he graduated from Cape Palmas High School. He furthered his education by attending Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Water and Sewage Treatment. On October 20, 1985, Joe united in holy matrimony to the former Sciata Musu Freeman. They first met when they both resided in Denver, Colorado. Sciata fondly remembers, “from the moment they met, they were inseparable”.
