Joseph W. Lanie, 62, passed away early Saturday morning, March 19, 2022, at his home after a short hospitalization.
Joe Lanie Jr. was born on December 9, 1959, in Watseka, IL. Joe is survived by his parents, Carolyn and Joseph Lanie Sr., and his two children, Cooper (Jessica) Lanie and Megan Lanie. He is also survived by his siblings Lisa (Rick) Henson, Gai (John) Griese, Jay (Natasha) Lanie, Lana Lods, Linda (Brian) Gick, Jim (Rhonda) Lanie, and Christie (Robert) Toombs.
Joe attended Benton Central High School and graduated in 1978. After high school, Joe Jr. attended Indianapolis Barber College. Upon graduation in 1983, he joined the family business, Lanie’s Barber Shop, where he and his father, Joseph Lanie Sr., and Uncle Larry Burton worked side-by-side for the last 39 years. His two children, Cooper and Megan Lanie, were Joe’s pride and joy. Cooper works as a used car manager at Andy Mohr Ford in Indianapolis. Megan Lanie graduated from Midwestern University in 2019 with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine. She currently works and lives in Phoenix, Arizona.
Joe Jr. enjoyed spending summer days boating with family and friends. He was skilled at working on boats, cars, and motorcycles. Joe never met a stranger and could always put a smile on your face with his witty one-liners. He had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by his friends and family every day.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no services at this time.
