Following the San Francisco Giants to their spring training camp in Scottsdale in 1989, he found himself attracted to the Valley of the Sun and decided to make Mesa his new home. Shortly thereafter, he began his career with Republic Westers/U-haul where he was a respected colleague and senior claims adjustor. Joseph was a man of faith and found spiritual expression and friendships in the Phoenix Diocese CRYS young adult community serving to present and support retreats and other events. He was a daily mass attendee and a familiar face in many parishes around the Valley. Joseph discovered the world of running with the turn of the 21st century. Last January he completed his tenth consecutive Rock ‘n’ Roll AZ full marathon. He also ran many half-marathons around the southwest. He met the love of his life, Angelika, in 2008 and they were married in Jakarta, Indonesia, in April of 2010, returning to Scottsdale to make their new home together. Gathered into the love of the Greater Phoenix Indonesian Catholic Community, Joseph and Angelika were an integral part of their masses and family celebrations. They were also cursillo retreatants. Joseph was a minister of the word at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Joseph and his wife found beautiful friendships within the Catholic Phillipino Community and among supporting members of CCIP (Community College Initiative Program).
