Joseph G. Lewis, 61, of Marseilles, died on Tuesday evening, Aug. 25, at his home.

He was a 1965 graduate of Grayslake High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy serving aboard the nuclear submarine USS George C. Marshall. He married his childhood sweetheart, Florence Jumper, on September 13, 1967, in McHenry, Illinois. He worked for Commonwealth Edison from 1971 until his retirement in 1997. Joe loved traveling and enjoyed road trips across the US to visit National Parks as well as researching genealogy. He was an avid reader and enjoyed gourmet cooking, woodworking with antique tools, and hunting for those old tools at antique fairs. He was a kind, gentleman that was deeply loved and will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; son, Daniel Lewis of Gulf Breeze, FL.; daughter Deborah Lewis(Gail Fowler) of Chicago, IL.; granddaughter, Sierra Lewis of Meadville, PA.; four brothers, Gary (Carole) Lewis of Round Lake Beach, IL., Edward (Louise) Lewis of Seabeck, W.A., Roy (Carol) Lewis of Simpsonville, SC., Ray (Jeannie) Lewis of Johnston, IA.; three sisters, Sharon (William) Murray of Gilbert, SC., Mary (J.R.) Berry of Gray Court, SC. and Laura (Dusty) Rollins of Lawton, OK., sister-in-law, Char (Robert) Tison of Montgomery, IL., many nieces and nephews, and his littlest friend, Mollie Musgrove.
