Joseph George Chupik, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 16, 2014, at the age of 97, after having a long, rich life spent loving God and others. He was born on a Texas cotton farm on June 19, 1916, the seventh and youngest child of Tom and Francis Chupik, who had emigrated from Czechoslovakia. After marrying Edna and having twins, Kenneth and Carolyn, in 1941, they moved to California in 1943.
He started his own business, Chupik Floorcovering, in the mid-1960s and continued this venture until his retirement in 1983. They were then able and blessed to travel to many countries, including Israel, Europe, and his homeland outside of Prague, now the Czech Republic. Their trips to Israel changed their lives as they found new joy and strength in their faith. They also served as hosts of the International House of Prayer, across from the Israeli Embassy, in Washington, DC, for many months at a time for approximately three years. This provided them opportunities that they never expected, as they were welcome in the White House press briefings, company of ambassadors, and provided hospitality to many locals and others from around the world.
Joe and Edna moved to Idaho in 1996, and she passed away in 1997, just shy of their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
Joseph loved people, and could always make a fast friend in any circumstance. He was smart beyond his education, and continued to read, learn, and debate important issues until his last day. In spite of his strong convictions and opinions, he was gracious and loving to all. He was generous in love, with his time, and with his advice when it was asked of him. Those he loved will miss him greatly, knowing that we will never be loved by anyone like that again.
The night before he died, he led the men’s team in six-handed pinochle to soundly defeat the “girls,” giving him such joy and satisfaction that he could hardly sleep.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his sister, Martha, 98, and his daughter, Carolyn Larson, of Eagle; five granddaughters: Lisa Austin (Tim), Jennifer Henning (Scott), Kim Horner, Teresa Larson, and Karin Larson, and eleven great-grandchildren: Jessica, Justin, Kyle, Tyler, Dylan, Lily, Jacob, Madeline, Allison, Hannah, and Lilianne.
