Joseph F. Battaglia, 96, of LaSalle, passed away Saturday evening, July 3, 2010 at Heritage Manor in Peru. Mr. Battaglia was born on August 2, 1913 in Centerville, Iowa to Anton and Josephine (Balsamo) Battaglia. He married Laura Maurice on June 12, 1935 at the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in LaSalle.
She died August 29, 2003. He worked as a machinist for Conco Enginering Works, Inc. in Mendota and Zinc Works in LaSalle for many years. He was a member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in LaSalle, LaSalle Knights of Columbus, and the Bowlers Hall of Fame. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He was not only loved by his family and friends but by everyone he knew. He was always an active man. He loved bowling, fishing, and all sports.
Whenever anyone needed him he was always there for them. He is survived by one son; Joseph Battaglia of Aurora, Colorado; one daughter, Shirley Steen of LaSalle; 10 grandchildren, Tammy, Aaron, Tony, Rick, Andy, Ron, and Mike Battaglia, Lee Steen, Donna Lauck, and Amy Mareta; 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; one brother, Frank (Jean) Battaglia of Peru and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Laura; one son, Tony Battaglia; three grandchildren, Patti Battaglia and two in infancy; one great-grandson, Andrew Battaglia; three brothers, Augie, Sam and Phil Battaglia; two sisters, Mary Strange and Josephine George.
