Joseph Eugene Nadeau, 84 born in Portland, Maine, passed peacefully,
surrounded by family on June 1, 2022. He grew up in Boston, and later
moved to Miami, where he has lived for the past 50 years and where he
founded his own healthcare firm, COMPUTERx Consulting.
Joe was the beloved husband of Mary Lou (Prendible) Nadeau for 60 years
and was the loving father of Laura Durden, Keith Nadeau (& Kat Casey)
and Michael Nadeau. He adored his grandchildren, Jessica (Tim) Cummings
and Jonathan Durden, and recently welcomed his first
by his brother, John (Noreen) Nadeau, his sister-in-law, Patricia Nadeau
and brother-in-law, Richard Slavinsky, in addition to many nieces and
nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Edwin Tustin and Beatrice (Spiller)
Nadeau, as well as his brothers, Ed Nadeau, Frank Nadeau, sister, Mary
Slavinsky, sister-in-law, Betty Nadeau, his nephew, Paul Nadeau and
great-nephew, Nicholas Nadeau.
Joe attended Catholic schools from elementary school through college,
graduating from Boston College with a degree in Mathematics. He also
achieved 4th degree in Knights of Columbus. He was an active member of
ROTC during his college years and upon graduation, he started Army Life
as a 2nd Lieutenant. After Airborne and Ranger training, he headed to
his first post in Germany. His fiancée, Mary Lou, followed him a few
months later. They had 2 wedding ceremonies, one in Switzerland and
another in the Chapel on post.
After serving 4 years, Joe and Mary Lou returned to Boston, with their
first child, Laura. Jobs were opening in the new field of computers and
that interested Joe’s analytical mind. He learned to code and analyze
various computer systems and the family settled in Lexington. By now, 2
more children had been born, Keith and Michael.
Joe was active in Scouting and supported his children in their Scouting
activities. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout. As a young adult, he
taught swimming to young people at various camps in New England. He
particularly enjoyed teaching blind children how to swim and told many
stories of how challenging it was to teach children how to swim when
they couldn’t see what he was describing.
He started his own business, COMPUTERx Consulting in Miami, where for 40
years he helped hospitals around the country in the selection of
computer systems. In later years, he primarily worked with one Medical
Center in Tupelo, Mississippi and had many friends there.
As he approached retirement, his hearing became progressively worse and
he began wearing hearing aids and eventually cochlear implants. He
became involved in HLAA and advocated for the hearing loss community.
