Joseph Egleston Johnston Cox, Jr., age 95 of Sharpsburg, passed away in his home surrounded by family early Thursday, January 22, 2015.

Mr. Cox was born in Muscadine, Alabama, on September 6, 1919, to the late Joseph and Mamie Farr Cox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 7 sisters. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 and became a pilot, serving in several states and countries around the globe.

Mr. Cox met and married Thelma Elizabeth Barrow in 1946, and they had four children together. The two loved to travel, loved to fish, and loved their family. They also loved to garden and share their vegetables with family and friends. He was always hangin’ in like a loose tooth. Mr. Cox lived a long and prosperous life. He was a Master Mason for 64 years, a Shriner for 25, and was a member of Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church for 82 years.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mrs. Thelma Barrow Cox; sons, Bill Cox (Jean), Jody Cox (Jean), and Eldon Cox (Debbie); daughter Kathy Moore (Marvin); 10 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
